Hey everyone! It’s your favorite Ladies Room social butterfly Meghan here! Since I’m working from home today due to the chilly temps and just a little snowfall- one of our esteemed members of The Ladies Room, Hess, thought this would be a great topic to write about (and I couldn’t agree more).

I read an article a few weeks back about this new…. trend… having a “Winter Boyfriend.” Surprisingly, I’ve heard of this before.

To put it simply it’s females (and males too) who make sure they are in a relationship during the winter months. It’s cold. It’s miserable. You don’t want to be lonely. I get it.

A winter boyfriend or girlfriend is a significant other that is only around during the winter months. You snatch them up just before it gets cold, ensuring that you have the perfect person to cook for, share laughs by the fire with, and just stay at home and snuggle when its sub zero outside. Who wouldn’t want that?

Let’s be honest-would you rather be cozied up on the couch with a hot, hunky man, or just yourself and Netflix? As much as I love option two, someone to curl up with while I Netflix binge, is always nice. Some people have even taken it to the next level by posting their desire for this type of relationship on Craigslist. Ironically, one of the ads was posted in California…. excuse me while I feel sorry for the people in California where it’s currently 59 degrees, and here in Pennsylvania it’ s 31 and there’s about 9 inches of snow on the ground.

However, after finding out about this phenomenon, I started to question myself. Am I a winter girlfriend? Is my boyfriend a winter boyfriend? I started seeing my current boyfriend in November, which was right on the cusp of the wintery months ahead. I’m not going not lie, having someone to curl up with when it’s cold out is pretty wonderful! But, I know I’m not the type of person to just leave someone once the weather gets warmer- I would like to have someone to go on adventures once it gets warmer out too!

So, I asked my fellow Ladies Room beauties if they’ve ever had a winter boyfriend, and if they haven’t, do they think it’s totally ingenious or completely crazy. Here’s what they said:

Hess: The perfect scenario Winter:  Have a guy that likes to do all the winter sports…ski, snowboard etc with you AND thinks it’s ok to relax inside by the fire.  Summer: Have a guy who likes to party a little more, loves the water, plays golf and goes hiking. So…6 months boyfriends seem to be the best!!  Good thing mine is adaptable…I will keep him year round.

Bethany: I have never done the “Winter Boyfriend” thing, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t understand it. I find it to be pretty ingenious.. If you enjoy being single in the hot summer months, but hate being alone when it’s a frozen tundra, cloudy and downright depressing, then by all means, have at it! There is nothing better than snuggling under a blanket, watching movies and keeping warm INSIDE, but let’s face it, who wants to do that alone, I say yes, to the Winter boyfriend, if you are not already in a relationship!

Heather: I would tend to always concentrate on finding a relationship during winter months more than anything.  I don’t really ever recall having a “Winter Boyfriend”, but it’s funny because I have had so many conversations in the past with my friends about questioning that fact that during winter, I always seemed to work out more and dress to impress whenever we went out…so I guess I was looking into a seasonal relationship.  I look at it this way, if a man can entertain you and you enjoy so much staying inside by the fire during the cold winter months, than he just might be a blast in the summer when there is so many different things to do! It might turn into a good thing!
