Six Susquehanna Valley EMS employees are in quarantine after being exposed to people who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, according to SVEMS CEO Mike Fitzgibbons.
Susquehanna Valley EMS learned Friday morning that two patients they transported within the past week tested positive for COVID-19.
The two patients were treated on March 21 and March 24, respectively.
“From the time of the 21st and the 24th, there was such a lag in testing, the providers then had contact with their families and with the rest of our staff," Fitzgibbons said.
Since neither patient showed any symptoms of COVID-19, the six providers did not wear masks during patient transport.
Four of the providers were on duty, Friday. They were pulled off duty when Fitzgibbons learned they were exposed.
One of the providers is being tested for COVID-19 because they have shown symptoms. Another provider is being tested due to underlying health issues.
