Dogs help with anxiety

There’s a lot to love about dogs—those cute faces, wagging tails, and built-in cuddles—but it turns out some breeds can also help ease anxiety. About 1 in 5 U.S. adults deal with anxiety each year, and while dogs aren’t a replacement for treatment, they can offer real emotional support.

Studies show that just spending time with a dog can lower stress and boost your mood. And according to a professional dog trainer, some breeds are especially great at it:

  • Newfoundland – Gentle giants with calm, steady personalities. They bond closely with their humans and are often used as therapy dogs… just be ready for lots of grooming.
  • Labrador Retriever – Friendly, eager to please, and great with routine. Labs love people and are one of the most common therapy dogs out there.
  • Golden Retriever – Super gentle and emotionally tuned-in. They’re affectionate, loving, and fantastic companions.
  • Poodles – Whether standard or mini, they’re very in tune with their owners and tend to stick close, especially in busy or stressful settings.
  • Greyhound – Surprise! Retired racers are actually super laid-back at home. They form strong bonds and can be incredibly calming companions.
