The Cranberries' singer Dolores O’Riordan died yesterday in a London hotel room. She was 46. No cause of death has been released, with the band only saying that she died “suddenly,” and that she “was in London for a short recording session.” The statement adds, “No further details are available at this time. Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."
O’Riordan, who was born in Limerick, Ireland, was previously diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, but at this time there’s no word on whether that played a role in her death, although friends tell TMZ she was "dreadfully depressed" in recent weeks.
In fact, just last year the band was forced to cancel a tour because of her health, blaming it on “medical reasons associated with a back problem.”
