Crime in Allentown is down!

Pennsylvania State Police Uniform Crime Report statistics say crimes of homicide, aggravated assault, rape, burglary and theft dropped just under 1 percent from 2016.

Specifically, the crimes dropped to 3,872 from 3,907. These crimes topped 6,200 in the city ten years ago, according to a news release from the city.

The city says the decrease was highlighted by a 32 percent decrease in nonfatal gun assaults and a 5 percent decline in armed robberies.

“We are working hard every day to cut down on the incidence of crime in the city,” said Chief Glen Dorney in the city's news release.
