This week is shaping up to be a white-out and an ice-out followed by a wash-out.
The white-out part was evident Monday morning in the light blanket of snow that began falling Sunday night. Before dawn Monday it was giving area roads an icy cast.
The National Weather Service prediction of 1 to 2 inches of snowfall overnight turned out to be correct. More is on the way, the federal forecasters say.
The service is calling for a snow and sleet mix throughout the day with spurts of heavy snow. The high will be around 34 and the added snowfall will be 1 to 2 inches. Snow and sleet are forecast overnight Monday into Tuesday with new accumulations of 2 to 4 inches.
