Kamala Harris Joins Elizabeth Warren in Calling for Trump's Impeachment

Democrat Presidential Candidates Attend Building Trades Unions Conference

California Senator Kamala Harris joined Senator Elizabeth Warren in calling for Congress to begin impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

Harris, who is campaigning to become the Democratic presidential nominee told the audience at a town hall event broadcast on CNN that she supported impeaching the president in response to a question she was asked about special counsel Robert Mueller's report.

"I believe that we need to get rid of this president. That's why I'm running to become president of the United States," Harris said. The California Democrat added that she wouldn't mind beating him at the ballot box in 2020 either.

Harris stated that evidence contained in Mueller's report showed "that this president and his administration engaged in obstruction of justice."

"I believe Congress should take the steps towards impeachment," said Harris.

However, while Harris believes Congress should begin taking steps toward impeaching President Trump, she cautioned that the process was a long and arduous one. She said she didn't think enough of her Republicans colleagues would join Democrats in securing the two-thirds vote needed in the Senate to remove Trump from office.

"I've not seen any evidence to suggest that they will weigh on the facts instead of on partisan adherence to being protective of this president," Harris said. "So we have to be realistic about what might be the end result, but that doesn't mean the process should not take hold."
