A longtime Minneapolis pizza shop is getting some help from its community after a fire forced it to temporarily close. Jakeeno’s Pizza, which has been open for about 50 years, was damaged by a roof fire last month, leaving its cooks, servers and bartenders out of work while the restaurant rebuilds.
Local hospitality entrepreneur Bob Tinsley launched a crowdfund to help owners and sisters Amy and Patty Keegan continue supporting their employees during the closure. The community has responded with more than $22-thousand from nearly 300 donations.
The restaurant is insured, and the owners are waiting for the claims process to move forward before rebuilding can begin. In the meantime, the business is relying on sales of its Jakeeno’s pasta sauce and frozen pizzas available in local stores.
