An Oklahoma high school is hazing their incoming freshmen in a way that parents can actually appreciate. Each year on the first day of school, seniors at Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa crowd around arriving cars and make every freshman give their mom, dad or grandparent a goodbye kiss before heading inside.
The tradition began in 2001, when students decided to replace the kinds of pranks seniors had previously played on freshmen with something kinder but still suitably embarrassing. Seniors enthusiastically enforce the ritual, reminding reluctant freshmen that they had to do it when they first arrived, too.
For parents dropping off their new high schoolers, the tradition can make an emotional milestone a little sweeter. For the freshmen, it means starting high school with one last very public display of parental affection.
