Students at Meredith Elementary School in Philadelphia are impacting the lives of many underprivileged people overseas as they prepare to ship over 6,700 pairs of gently used shoes to Haiti, as well as other countries in Asia and Africa.
Students, staff, and parents at the school helped collect the shoes – and then helped pack the shoes into bags and loaded the shoes into a truck, with help from the charity group Fund2Orgs.
Many of the shoes won’t just be delivered and worn, though.
Instead, the people who receive the shoes clean them up a bit and then sell them for money that can be used to buy food to feed the family.
The effort was also a big win for those who helped, because the charity group ended up giving the school about $2,000 for supplies.
