community

Have you ever thought about opening your own business? How about one that caters to the adventure seekers using the D&L Trail? If you have ever wondered what types of business would be successful in a trail town, and how to bring your thoughts to life, you’re in luck because an event is coming that can help make your dream a reality!

Carbon County has a host of treasures not the least being the D&L Trail that runs the entire length of the County from North to South. A walk, run or bike ride on the trail shows off the wildness of our beautiful Lehigh Gorge State Park and the Lehigh River and continues down to the more industrialized Lehigh Valley. Along the trail, there are many businesses that are thriving in small towns and villages; coffee shops, restaurants, lodging, and recreational focused businesses alike are making a name for themselves and our beloved D&L Trail. And, there is room for more.

The Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corp. and the Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor are hosting a workshop on Friday, March 22nd from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for entrepreneurs, future entrepreneurs, existing business owners, borough and township officials in and around the D&L Corridor and anyone who has ever considered opening a business to cater to trail and outdoor recreation users.

The workshop will be at the Lehighton Outdoor Center located at 123 Lehigh Drive in Lehighton.

This will be a creative seminar to arm anyone who may have a business idea with information that will enable them to take the next step to owning and operating a successful trail friendly business. This seminar is for anyone in Bucks, Carbon, Lehigh Luzerne or Northampton Counties who has influence in the community and who is interested in affecting positive change along trails.

The seminar will feature David Kahley from the Greater Allegheny Passage and the Progress Fund as the Keynote Speaker. David led the efforts to create The Trail Town Program® along the GAP Trail and has funded many trail friendly businesses. InN addition to the CCEDC and D&L, the seminar will include Jerry McAward from the Lehighton Outdoor Center, The Small Business Development Center of Wilkes University, SCORE of the Lehigh Valley, and local Borough Representatives. Attendees will leave with all of the information, steps and contacts needed to start their own successful trail friendly business of their dreams!
