The City of Chicago has filed suitagainst Jussie Smollett for $130-thousand bucks to cover the cost of the police overtime it took to investigate an allegedly bogus hate crime. The paperwork was filed in Cook County Circuit Court over two weeks after prosecutors in the Cook County state’s attorney’s office dismissed all criminal charges against him in exchange for community service and forfeiture of his $10k bond.
This case could turn everything upside down for Jussie. Since he’s been adamant about his innocence, settling wouldn’t be a good look. If the case goes to trial, the sealed files in his criminal case could be made public. His rep hasn’t commented.
