More than 1 in 10 think there will be a zombie apocalypse one day

Ever wonder where the best place to survive a zombie apocalypse is? New research has the answer. After the success of HBOโ€™s hit โ€œThe Last of Us,โ€ insurance marketplace Insuranks surveyed a thousand U.S. adults about zombies and they also analyzed over a thousand Google searches to figure out where each state lands on zombie apocalypse preparedness.

Theย researchย reveals:

  • More than one in 10 Americans believe a zombie apocalypse is going to happen one day.
  • More than half of respondents who think itโ€™s inevitable think it will happen in the next 30 years.
  • As a result, nearly a quarter of those polled donโ€™t think itโ€™s weird or unusual to prepare for the event and more than 10% of people already have food stockpiled for that emergency.
  • Just over half (53%) believe they know how to kill a zombie and 66% admit they would kill a loved one who turned into a zombie.
  • If a zombie apocalypse does happen, it has to start somewhere and people think that would most likely be California, which happens to be the state least prepared for the event.
  • As for the state most ready to take on the walking dead, that would be Wyoming, according to the survey.
  • But any state thatโ€™s not heavily populated and has a lot of open spaces where you could live off the land, stockpile weapons and avoid other people would be good.
  • Alaska is named the second best place for dodging zombies, followed by Vermont, North Dakota and South Dakota.
  • Besides California, Texas, Florida, New York and Pennsylvania are the states least prepared to defend themselves against the living dead.
  • Respondents rank โ€œThe Walking Deadโ€ as the most accurate zombie portrayal in a show or movie, followed by โ€œ28 Days Laterโ€ and โ€œWorld War Z.โ€
