Here's what's trending for March 9.

A Pennsylvania state trooper was killed during a traffic stop in Chester County Sunday night. The trooper was identified as Timothy O'Connor. Pennsylvania State Police Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens explains what happened during the traffic stop. "Immediately after the traffic stop, Corporal O'Connor approached the vechicle that he had stopped and within seconds as he approached the car, the driver opened fire from inside the vehicle and struck him," Bivens says. The shooter shot and killed himself after he shot trooper O'Connor.

Flags are flying at half-staff to honor a fallen Pennsylvania State Police Trooper. Corporal Timothy O'Connor was gunned down at a traffic stop last night in Chester County. Governor Shapiro issued the flag order. O'Connor leaves behind a wife and daughter.

After groundbreaking on Friday, construction officially begins today on a big expansion at Parkland High School. The expansion will add 30 classrooms, 16 new labs, outdoor courtyards, expanded cafeteria and office spaces as well as a new athletic lobby and media center makeover. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

The Lehigh Valley's newest Wawa will open up this Thursday morning at 8 o'clock. The new Wawa will offer free coffee and T-shirts when it holds its grand opening at the Whitehall Mall. The first 100 customers will receive “Wawa Grand Opening Tour in the USA” T-shirts as supplies last, while the free hot coffee of any size will be available through March 15. The grand opening will also feature a hoagie-building competition for first responders.

Authorities are investigating an armed bank robbery in Monroe County over the weekend. State Police say a person walked into a bank on the 100 block of Erin Lane with a note demanding money. They reportedly fled the scene in a dark colored SUV without a registration plate. Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact PSP.

A snowier winter doesn't actually mean a more dangerous driving winter. In fact, Pennsylvania Turnpike Chief Operating Officer Craig Shuey says the opposite is true because of the timing of that snow. "These snows aren't hitting us in the middle of the rush hour. They're hitting us at the times when the roads are most open," Shuey says. He says a couple inches of snow during a rush hour is probably more of a problem than a foot of snow on a weekend.

State health officials have confirmed a third child has died from the flu as cases across New Jersey have been decreasing. Officials say the child lived in the northern part of the state and had other medical issues. Last year, New Jersey had five pediatric flu deaths, an increase from two the previous year. Health officials have urged flu shots for the general pubic, saying it's not too late to protect themselves.

Governor Mikie Sherrill is scheduled to make her first budget address tomorrow, when she's expected to address the state's chronic fiscal issues and how she plans to tackle them. Sherrill has pledged no new taxes and she intends to identify spending cuts for the state. New Jersey faces a roughly three-billion dollar structural deficit that's under pressure from rising costs and long-term spending pressures. The state is projected to finish the current fiscal year with a surplus of more than seven-billion dollars but administration officials warn the surplus could be wiped out if spending continues unchecked. Sherrill has won praise from business groups for her transparency and fiscal discipline.

The Lehigh University men's basketball team is one win away from the Big Dance. The Mountain Hawks defeated Colgate 76-69 yesterday to advance to the Patriot League Championship. Lehigh will host Boston University at Stabler Arena Wednesday night with the Patriot League title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament on the line.

The Eagles are giving out a record contract. The team reportedly agreed with Jordan Davis on a three-year, $78 million extension on Saturday. The deal includes $65 million in guaranteed money. The 26-year-old was entering the last year of his rookie deal and is now the highest-paid nose tackle in NFL history. Davis was taken 13th-overall in the 2022 draft.

The 76ers are hoping their All-Star player will have a swift recovery from a nagging injury. Tyrese Maxey has been ruled out for the team's upcoming back-to-back games against the Cavaliers and Grizzlies with a sprained finger. He got hurt in Saturday's loss to the Hawks and is averaging 29 points per game this season. The hobbled Sixers are already dealing with injuries to Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe.
