The search for a man who authorities said went into the Lehigh River to avoid arrest is being called off. Coplay police say the man ran from officers after being served a warrant yesterday afternoon and ended up jumping into the river, but didn't come back up. Coplay Police Chief Ryan Emerich says he doesn't think the man will be found alive. "At some point, within three or four feet of the river bank it gets down to 25 feet. We saw some ducks and other animals and they're just flying down that river," Emerich says. Rescue crews discontinued their search after six hours Thursday. The person in the water is described as a black male wearing a yellow and blue hoodie.

Gov. Josh Shapiro outraised Republican challenger Stacy Garrity by more than 15-to-1 in 2025. All told, Shapiro raised $23 million in 2025 and had $30 million left in the bank as of Dec. 31. Garrity raised $1.5 million in the same period and had $1 million left as of the same date. Shapiro reportedly told top donors earlier this year that he'd like to raise anywhere from $90 to $100 million for his reelection. That would shatter a state record that Shapiro himself set when he raised $68 million for his gubernatorial race four years ago.
