A year after retiring due to health reasons, the Lehigh County Sheriff's Office's first ever K-9 has died. Nevie, a German shepherd, who was trained in explosives detection and tracking, joined the sheriff’s office in June 2017 and conducting daily sweeps of the courthouses, Government Center and incoming county mail. Nevie was 11-and-a-half years old.

According to the USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards, America's best drive-in theater is in the Lehigh Valley. North Whitehall Township'a Shankweiler’s has been voted the nation's number one drive-in after placing second last year and fifth two years ago. Shankweiler's opened in 1934 and is the country’s old operating drive-in theater.

Today through Monday, Parkland High School's practice field will host Memorial Day ceremonies. Saturday will feature ceremonies at Lopatcong Middle School in P-Burg and at SteelStacks in Bethlehem. On Sunday, the Springhouse Middle School in Allentown, Williams Township Municipal Building and Bethlehem City Hall all host Memorial Day observances. On Memorial Day Monday, ceremonies will be held at Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church in Allentown, Macungie Memorial Park, Fairview Cemetery in Pen Argyl and at Fullerton Post 367.

Easton's speed limit will be violated this Sunday, but not only will it be ignored, it'll be encouraged. Sunday marks the annual Easton Criterium in Easton and Joe Dimeck says it will feature world-class cyclists going all out. "They're doing speeds of 40 miles per hour through the downtown for 75 minutes straight," Dimeck says. The men's pro race just after 5:30 ends a full day of competition that begins with a 5k running race at 9am. The racers begin on Northampton Street, navigate Center Square, head south on South Third Street, turn onto Ferry Street, head south onto South Sitgreaves Street before hopping onto Larry Holmes Drive and then back onto Northampton Street.

The weather forecast isn't ideal, but Mayfair opens its annual Memorial Day weekend run today. Mayfair takes over the campus of Cedar Crest College every Memorial Day weekend, with 45 artists and crafters; 20 food vendors; more than a dozen live performances; and plenty of kids activities planned. Organizers say the festival is rain or shine and parts of the festival is covered. Mayfair runs today from 4-to-10 and tomorrow and Sunday from noon-to-10.
