Here's what's trending for June 8.

A 17-year-old boy was shot to death around 10 o'clock Saturday night in the area of North Jay and East North streets in Allentown. Dave Wylie lives in that neighborhood and he says he's at a loss for why violence just keeps getting worse there. "It's crazy. You don't know if it's the parents or is it the kid," Wylie says. The teenager who died was one of three people shot there Saturday night. Mayor Matt Tuerk says, "Gun violence among young people is among one of the great tragedies of our time."

We're beginning to learn more about two deaths that happened Friday evening in Carbon County. Sunday, the Carbon County Coroner said the deadly shooting on Route 940 in White Haven is believed to be a murder-suicide. Police discovered two adults dead after a 9-1-1 hang-up call led to a welfare check. The identities of the two dead adults are being withheld until an autopsy is completed today.

Authorities are investigating reports of gunshots along the D-and-L Trail. Northampton County officials said a kayaker reported seeing bullets hitting the water near Wilson Avenue in Bethlehem Township Saturday afternoon. No injuries have been reported.

The first miner who was rescued from a flooded mine in Somerset County more than two decades ago has died. Randall Fogle passed away last week at the age of 68. Fogle was one of nine miners to be rescued from the Quecreek Mine in 2002 after the mine shaft flooded and trapped them inside. The miners spent four days inside the mine shaft before they were freed, with millions around the world following the 77-hour rescue effort.

It's that time of year for black and white dotted spotted lanternflies to start sticking plants and trees after hatching. The invasive bug will look like a small dotted stink bug in early stages, before growing into gray and black adults with partly red wings. Entomologists at Rutgers University's Cooperative Extension says spotted lanternflies feed on over 70 plant species, mainly on the trunk and limbs of plants and trees. They were first spotted in New Jersey in 2018, and the state agriculture's website says they do not sting or bite humans or pets, but encourages Garden State residents to help "stomp it out," since spotted lanternflies harm native trees, crops and plants.

Amid resistance from Republicans, Governor Mikie Sherrill plans to include funds to boost legal assistance for low-income New Jersey residents as well as Delaney Hall detainees. Sherill and legislative leaders say they've agreed to increase the Detention Deportation Defense Initiative's funding by 12-million dollars to 20-point-two million dollars. The governor says the funding will help low-income detainees in Delaney Hall. Republican leaders say the move represents misplaced priorities when the state should be helping school districts afford basic skills programs and student services.

After going 2-for-4 Sunday, Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh leads all of Major League Baseball with a .338 batting average. He explains some of the reasons for his remarkable first two-and-a-half months of the season. "It's just stringing some good at-bats together and getting decent counts and getting good pitches to hit and taking advantage of those," Marsh says. Marsh is a career .269 hitter but hit .280 last season and is now leading all of baseball in batting average.

The 76ers are still tweaking their front office. ESPN reports the team promoted Jameer Nelson to the executive vice president of basketball operations position. He was previously the assistant general manager. In addition, Philly will not bring back Elton Brand as the general manager. Nelson will serve under Mike Gansey, who replaced Daryl Morey as president of basketball ops.
