“American Idol” judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie sat down for their first interview together on “Good Morning America,” and so far things seem to be going well.
Katy called the trio a “dream team,” with Lionel joking, “It’s as if we’ve been to school together for the last 40 years. Excuse me, I should say 20 years!” Katy says that even though they’ve only been working together one day they are “locked in,” noting, there’s “incredible mutual respect, and everybody has their strengths and knows their different wheelhouses.”
But that doesn’t mean they are taking their job criticizing other people lightly and they know finding a new superstar will be a “challenge.” “We care about their emotions they’re going through. We’re judging, do we think they’re going to be able to handle this ride?,” Luke says. “I think it’s nice to see the glitz and the glamour, but there’s a lot of hard work that goes behind it.”
"There’s still talent out there to be discovered," Katy adds, noting that hopefully with their work on "Idol" they can give those stars-in-the-making "a little platform to just shine.”
