Code Red Air Quality Alert; Steve Knight Talks About Weekend Predictions

State DEP Extends Code Red Air Quality Alert

(Harrisburg, PA) -- Forecasters say the haze that impacted Central Pennsylvania yesterday could worsen today. That's caused the state Department of Environmental Protection to announce that the Code Red air quality alert issued Wednesday will continue for Thursday. They caution that some areas could even develop into Code Purple quality throughout the day. When that happens, officials say young children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems should avoid all physical activity outdoors. Everyone else should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.

CODE RED AIR QUALITY ALERT CONTINUES:

Due in large part to smoke from Canadian Wildfires the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has expanded the Code RED Air Quality Alert to cover all of Central Pennsylvania through Midnight tonight. Air quality is expected to improve through the day tomorrow and in to the upcoming weekend.

STORMY WEEKEND:

The heat and humidity return tomorrow with highs in the upper 80s. Then expect the chance of afternoon thunderstorms again on both Saturday and Sunday. Neither day is a washout but be ready for those Summertime thunderstorms!

INDEPENDENCE DAY:

It will stay hot and muggy thru Tuesday with once again a few pop up afternoon thunderstorms... typical 4th of July weather in Central Pennsylvania!

CBS 21 FIRST WARNING WEATHER FORECAST:

Today: Hazy Sunshine: High 84

Tonight: Partly Cloudy: Low 60

Tomorrow: Partly Sunny: High 88

Saturday: Partly Cloudy, Scattered Thunderstorms: High 86

Sunday: Partly Cloudy, Scattered Thunderstorms: High 84
